        Welcome to the Shire of Merredin

        Our Council strives to encourage a vibrant community that offers a comprehensive range of local and regional services. Its aim is to work with all communities in the Central Wheatbelt to support quality of life as well as economic and social development within the region.

        Within these pages you will find plenty of information on the services and facilities provided by the Shire of Merredin; you can keep up to date with relevant news and helpful information; you can pay your rates and invoices online; and access past and present Council Meeting agendas and minutes.

        Additional information on living in Merredin can be obtained at www.merredin.com and information on visiting and touring around Merredin and the eastern Wheatbelt can be found at www.wheatbelttourism.com.


        strategic community plan

        As per the Local Government Act 1995, the Shire of Merredin is required to do a plan for the future of Merredin with the input of the community. This document, known as the Strategic Community Plan, guides Council for the next 10 years. The plan is a 'living document' subject to a minor review every two years and a major review every four years. A major review was undertaken of the plan in July 2018. Community members wishing to view the plan may download a copy below or alternatively, ask for a copy from the front counter at the Administration Office. 

        Community Members should note this plan was developed with input conducted from forums, workshops and surveys undertaken in March 2018. The plan is a broad overview which amalgamates their feedback into broad categories. As part of strategic planning, the Shire is also required to do a another plan. This plan is known as the Corporate Business Plan and sets out the first four years of tasks to be completed under the Strategic Community Plan. This plan is more community feedback specific and can be found on the Integrated Planning & Reporting page of this website. From there, the Annual Budget sets out the first year of goals to be achieved from the Corporate Business Plan.

        The Shire of Merredin has produced a 'Quick Information Guide' (click here to download) which was sent out with the 2018/19 Rates Notices and contains a range of information on useful topics including:

        • Fire Control: Restricted & Prohibited Burning Period Dates and Fire Break Order Duties
        • Roads: Reporting Issues
        • Waste: Management & Tip Open Hours
        • Dogs & Cats: Registration Fees

        • Staying Informed: Subscribe to our Newsletter or follow the Shire on Facebook or Twitter

        The Shire also included the 'Fire Break Order' for 2019/20 (click here to download) in the Rates Notices mail out. Rate Payers should ensure they hang onto this document as all property owners under the Bushfire Act 1954 are required to comply with certain maintenance practices on your properties during the bushfire season. Failure to comply can result in the issuing of a fine from the Shire.
